OK.. How much does it cost?
Branding services can be purchased a la carte (name only, tag line only, logo design only) or as a comprehensive package that includes product positioning, domain name acquisition and web site design. The pricing depends on the number of services needed, the scope of the project (local vs. national), the deadline date, the number of restrictions (name and domain name must match exactly and be one English word for example) and the number of decision makers involved (a camel is a horse made by committee).

Having stated all that, our lowest price plans begin at $3500 for local, one location businesses and go upwards to $15,000 or more for more national or challenging assignments.

Most individuals and companies looking to name a company, or brand a product, simply want the basic facts. These typically come in the form of the following questions...

  • What items are included?
  • What are the steps involved?
  • What is timeline?
  • And most importantly... what is the price?

So for those who want to get "straight to it" here are the naming services we provide and the fee structure. You may choose to purchase services a la carte or combine them into packages. Final pricing is dependent on a number of variables. For example, one start up business may truly be a one-location, local business with no growth plans. While another start up is a future national franchise company in the making (i.e. PODS, TeamLogicIT).

Other factors are the number of decision makers... (the greater the number, the more time involved and the higher the price). Still another consideration is the need for an exact matching domain name (more difficult) and whether the name can be invented (easier but not always the best solution). For these reasons, you'll see the prices expressed as a range below.

We provide brilliant, intuitive names at all pricing levels. The rates are simply a reflection of worth to the company and time required to complete the job. For an exact quote, please fill out our "Getting Started" form. There is no obligation and the form provides us with a more thorough understanding of your exact needs and naming preferences.

Our goal is to empower you with information so your decisions will be both illuminated... and enlightened!

What if we don’t like the name?
There is no limit on the names we generate, only on the time (4 weeks). So chances are extremely good that you will not only get a good name, but one that you will be very pleased with. Besides we’re experts. Our track record speaks for itself. In the rare event that we cannot come up with a name that works, we will simply keep the deposit money and forego the final half payment. While we used to guarantee satisfaction, we found that clients that had no financial obligation did not participate as fully in the process and therefore didn’t reap the full benefits. If you don’t feel comfortable with our past work or our references, the best thing is to continue with the struggle until the pain drives you back here with check gladly in hand.

Do we get all the rights to the name?
Yes. We do not keep any rights to any of the work we produce as long as we are paid. That means, contingent on approval by the US Patent and Trademark Office, you are the proud owner of the name. We have our hands full in our business and don’t intend on doing yours as well. As stated on our home page, we give brilliant direction to the brilliant ideas of others. And that’s the way we like it.

How can we be sure a name is not already trademarked?
The scary truth is that you can never be totally sure, only reasonably sure. The law reads that it’s the first company/person to use, not the first to file, that has ownership rights. So even though the trademark goes through and is approved, if someone shows up and can prove commercial use of the name prior to yours, they have common law rights to it. Chances are, if they are that protective of their mark, they would have filed a trademark application at some point in time. The USPTO frowns on people and companies who claim how valuable their mark is but never bother to file to protect it.

What we provide is a preliminary trademark search of the USPTO database. If the name looks clear we can provide (via one of our trademark vendors), an official trademark search on the federal and state levels and a common usage search via the internet. The fee can be included as part of the package price or paid for individually. If there doesn’t appear to be a serious conflict, we can then have our trademark vendor complete the application process or you can have your in-house counsel do it for you. We are not trademark specialists, so we rely on full time, outside expertise to make recommendations in this ever changing arena.

If, after the fact, a problem with the trademark arises, we will work with you, free of charge, to alter or create a new name that will be approved. It happens from time to time just by the sheer volume of applications that the USPTO receives and because some trademark officials are more stringent than others. Fortunately, it doesn’t happen often.
